AN INSPECTOR CALLS

On 15th November 2004, when Kevin and Julie were on holiday, and a relief management couple were running the hotel; the hotel inspector arrives!

Although we pay for this inspection they arrive anonymously, and do not inform us that they are an inspector until they have paid the bill. Then they check all areas of the building and all bedrooms.
The inspector returned to debrief Kevin and Julie when we were back to discuss their findings. The same inspector had visited the hotel 5 years previously and had not been able to award any recognition.
Although some errors were made by the management couple, the main report was positive, with further scope to improve from the awarded 2 star to 3 star.

In their report the inspector states that:
“The hotel has been significantly improved and upgraded since the purchase of the property by the current owners, a comfortable level of accommodation being provided”

As most customers are aware Kevin and Julie were disappointed to gain 2 star and not 3 star, however all of the requirements for the higher award are achievable and we have started implementing the higher standard criteria.

These include:-
• radios in bedrooms
• new pictures in the bar, corridors and some bedrooms
• Provision of room service and lunchtime snack for residents.
• Opening the restaurant to residents on Sunday evening
• Provision of a laundry service
• Updating the remaining bedroom furniture

NEW CHEF ARRIVES

After working solo in the kitchen for over two years Kevin is about to hand over the reins to a new command. Desi is from Indonesia, will develop the restaurant and increase our non-resident business.

An International A’ La Carte Menu has been introduced and includes Indonesian dishes. Use of local fresh produce will still be a paramount importance, and a changing menu will reflect seasonal variations.
For those who like desserts, they will not be disappointed.

Desi’s Bailey’s Crème Brule is already becoming popular!

A small bar menu will continue to offer all the old favourites, with Kevin’s popular Steak and Ale pie, Traditional Fish and Chips etc.

In addition to the menus, we are starting a room service to allow guests the opportunity to order food in their room.

Sandwiches and light snacks will also be available for guests at lunchtime.
